Great Regulars: [Nick Gammage] believes [Ted] Hughes used

the letters to order his thoughts about his writing. "They were like triggers, as though he was using the letters to explore his thinking about his writing. He would often start by saying, 'Your question is impossible to answer', and then for six pages give the most brilliant answers." In the letters, Hughes talks about the intentions behind his work, his methods of writing and his views on the work of other poets, religion, history and the natural world.
