Webber Hospital and then Southern Maine Medical Center for more than 25 years, retiring as charge nurse in the maternity ward. All during these years, she and Chester owned and operated Drakes Island Store in the summer months.After retiring from nursing, Mary went back to school and earned a degree in fine arts. It was here that she nurtured her love of painting and poetry. She was an avid reader and she also enjoyed plants, gardening, cooking and knitting.
