Poetic Obituaries: Mr. [George] Tsongas lived and worked in

San Francisco for more than 60 years. He was part of the great San Francisco poetry renaissance of the 1950s, and later was one of the founders of the San Francisco Oracle, an alternative newspaper that flourished in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood in the 1960s.

He wrote hundreds of poems--so many that he lost count. His most recent published book, "Wild Broccoli," was published by the Thin Ice Press in 2008. He wrote several other books, including "The Trieste Chronicles" about the scene at Caffe Trieste in North Beach, which was his headquarters.
