and so does the little note hinting at its personal significance on the copyright page of the book, and so does the storytelling that ensues when [L. Lacambra] Ypil is given the opportunity to talk about his work. Once inside the book, Ypil builds for us a world that is mostly idyllic, pristine, and affluent: there are pianos played, there are gardens tended, there are ballet rehearsals, there are garden parties. There are old photographs and dolls and trees and sunlight and, in one of my favorite poems, "the fox-shape of a bride's/umbrella walking down the aisle/while the groom trotted past her difficult red/dress."
