I sense in the people I was dealing with, the resolve they have, the quest to maintain hope," [Kwame] Dawes said.
That hope is all the more amazing considering what has gone on in Haiti in the past year--the glacial pace of cleanup, a cholera outbreak that sickened nearly 100,000 and killed more than 2,000, a three-fold rise in rapes in the cramped tent cities and flooding from Hurricane Tomas. Despite that, there's less anger evident in the stories and photos than you might expect.
