Great Regulars: The author of two poetry collections

and a book of essays, [Jim] Minick is a careful writer with a gentle outlook. In short chapters, he examines the joys (abundant harvests, berries eaten straight from the bush, the landscape) and challenges (copperheads, crop failure, loneliness) of remaking one's life as a farmer. Between chapters, interludes on berry cultivation, blueberry lore and farming in general both celebrate and calculate the odds against small-scale farming in the United States.
