Great Regulars: In her foreword to Winter Sport,

[Priscila] Uppal writes that she intends to repeat her role as poet in residence at the Summer Games in London in 2012. That's Olympic coverage worth looking forward to.

Winter is the main event in Uppal's collection; it's more of an occasional metaphorical presence in Goran Simic's Sunrise in the Eyes of the Snowman (Biblioasis, 80 pages, $18.95), though no less vividly evoked: "in the North lost people/sit around a single candle/to warm their fingers./It is where mothers make sandwiches/already eaten by sorrow and the long wait/for better days.")

from Barbara Carey: Toronto Star: Poetry: Priscila Uppal and Goran Simic
