Mott Lincoln High School, North Dakota in 1939 where she was voted class poet.
She enjoyed writing poetry from a young age, a pastime that she took pleasure in throughout her whole life. She also wrote short stories for children and was delighted to have several works published in the "Who's Who of American Poetry." After she graduated Harriet worked as a schoolteacher in a one-room schoolhouse.
