Dear Poetry Aficionados,
Poetry & Poets in Rags blog
We begin our links this week with an interview of Rita Dove, who edited The Penguin Anthology of 20th Century American Poetry. This is followed by a review of the book. We then go south of the border with articles on Roberto Bolaño and then Javier Sicilia, then across the Atlantic to see Sylvia Plath's artwork, Christopher Reid's Selected Poems, and Lavinia Greenlaw's latest work. Our travels then take us down to New Zealand, then off to war, back to Queens College in New York, then to the Statue of Liberty.
Those are the first 10 articles in our News at Eleven section. Our Back Page is about Michael D. Higgins, who has published three collections of poetry, and who has just been elected ninth President of Ireland. In the mix of items on Higgins, is one of his poems.
Our Great Regulars section has a selection of poetry that should satisfy you poetic trick or treaters. And although our third section, the Poetic Obituaries, is shorter than usual, take a scroll through. Some important poets have passed on.
It is time to announce the September 2011 IBPC winning poems, judged by Tyehimba Jess. (Thanks again Tyehimba!) And congratulations to the poets and boards who sent in the winning poems!:
First place: Boys by Allen W. Weber of FreeWrights Peer Review
Second place: The Unfinished Ice Cream by John Wilks of The Write Idea
Third place: insu mni ac by John Eivaz of PenShells
Thanks for clicking in.
Yours,
Rus
