News at Eleven (Back Page): Q: When did Tom

become known as Tennessee?

A: Although he spent his first seven years in Mississippi, he actually has deep roots in Tennessee. Ancestors on his father's side were all Tennessee pioneers, and he thought a great deal of this heritage. And while submitting some plays to a competition from his grandparents' home in Memphis he falsified his age and signed his name as "Tennessee Williams."
