News at Eleven: Allegra's early days were spent with

her devoted mother and Mary and Percy Bysshe Shelley--Claire and Mary were stepsisters--but it was not a cozy relationship and eventually Byron was persuaded to take Allegra into his home in Italy.

But it didn't take him long to realise his reckless lifestyle was no place for a toddler... so he sent Allegra to a convent, without telling her mother.

Allegra arrived at the convent school in Bagnacavallo, near Ravenna, laden with beautifully clothed dolls.
