News at Eleven: [Billy Collins] considers the live reading second

to the audience of one--the solitary person reading silently.

"I'm never thinking about the auditorium with a lectern or a microphone. I'm thinking acoustically, I'm thinking of making good sounds and good rhythms, but I'm thinking of those rhythms taking place inside someone's head, not in a public space," he said.

Rather, what he looks for is the opportunity to explore the mysteries of everyday experience.
