that the Greeks thought of the past as stretching out before them while the future waited behind their backs. In "Departure Platform", the summer holidays are seen not as the pursuit of the unknown but as a chance to reconnect with the self. As we sit in corner seats, waiting for the train to pull out, "we hope for nearness/And dearness": finally of the moment, perhaps, as well as in it.
