Poetic Obituaries: [Joseph A. Newman] earned a master's degree

in creative writing from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and had numerous poems published in various creative writing journals.

He returned to the Boston area in 1978 and began his career in bookbinding while taking classes at the Harcourt Bindery.
