A post-feminism argument, [Paul C.] Jones said, is that Poe criticized society for what they'd done to women and expected of them. He disagreed, and said that Poe wrote horror stories. The tension in his stories was at its highest when women came back from the dead, Jones said.

Jones believes Poe was saying: This is what happens when women fight their role in society.
