Great Regulars: Open-mike reader Robert Crawford read

a sonnet at the May 2 Hoot that shows how a master crafter can use rhyme to help bring out the theme of a poem.

"The End is Near" plays on fears of the end of life as we know it--maybe Dec. 21, 2012, if you believe that interpretation of the Mayan calendar! By using double rhyme, with the rhyme on a stressed syllable followed by the repeated unstressed syllable, Crawford achieves two goals for his poem.
