Poetic Obituaries: "I said, 'Carl, I didn't know you were

into poetry,'" Clark recalled of that fateful conversation [with Carl Russo]. "He said, 'Tom, I didn't know you were into poetry. Let's start a group.'"

The Florence Poets Society met wherever and whenever it could, mostly in school auditoriums and at the Florence Civic Center. Clark and Russo became fast friends, often hitting the local bar called "The Office" for a beer after readings. They also did a poetry radio show together on Valley Free Radio WXOJ 103.3 FM. A week before Russo died, he read some verse by poet Sara Teasdale over the airwaves.
