News at Eleven: Asking to take the boat for a trial run,

[Refik] Erduran and the poet [Nâzım Hikmet] headed for the Black Sea, where they met the Romanian cargo ship, Plehanov.

"[Georgi] Plekhanov was a Russian reformist against Lenin. Nâzım hated him, this is why he did not want to get on the ship, so I had difficulty persuading him," Erduran said. "But we did not have any other choice. He yelled, 'I am Nâzım Hikmet, Turkish poet.' They thought that it was a provocation and refused us at first."
