Poetic Obituaries: [David Markson] came to know Dylan Thomas

and also met Jack Kerouac in his early years.

He edited crime fiction at Dell Books in the 1950s and wrote detective novels.

The success of The Ballad of Dingus Magee allowed him the time and and the freedom to work on his more literary novels.

Markson was little known to the general public but idolized by a core of fans that included Ann Beattie and David Foster Wallace.
