Poetic Obituaries: [Leslie Scalapino] was a member of the West Coast

Language poets, an avant garde poetry group that emerged in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Her first book, "O and Other Poems," was published in 1976. She continued to publish more than 30 books of poetry, prose, plays and essays throughout her lifetime.

Scalapino founded her own publishing company, O Books, in 1986 as an outlet for young and emerging poets as well as prominent writers.
