November 2nd forum announcement

Dear Poetry Aficionados,

Poetry & Poets in Rags blog

This week, as in the previous few weeks, we have articles in our News at Eleven and Great Regulars sections about Liu Xiaobo, specifically about the pressure and avenues being used to appeal to the still self-righteously obstinate Chinese government officials to free him. But we begin with another detained Nobel Peace Prize winner, Aung San Suu Kyi.

The world is anticipating her release. The people who, under false pretenses have arrogated power in Burma, fear her, because she and her party won the election that rightfully put them out of power, and her in. So they have had her under house arrest and in prison for 15 years of her valuable life. In the country of Burma, it's a case of the outlaws being free, and the best citizens being imprisoned. Our third link in News at Eleven, is to an article about poet and comedian Zarganar, who is imprisoned in Burma and, among other mistreatments, has had his teeth yanked, for his sense of humor.

But if you've come to the poetry news for the poetry, we have that this week as well. If you've come for the reviews of books, we have them too. If you want profiles of some interesting poets, yes, they are here in Poetry & Poets in Rags this week. Good ones too. And don't forget to scroll through the Poetic Obituaries at the end. We're all in this together.

Thanks for clicking in.

Yours,
Rus
