Dear Poetry Aficionados,
Poetry & Poets in Rags blog
Sylvia Plath has been inducted into the American Poets' Corner, which is hosted by the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City. Next year, her ex, Ted Hughes, will be inducted into the Poets' Corner at Westminster Abbey, an honor for which Plath is not being considered. England's adoption of her and her poetry has never seemed complete, as it has with T.S. Eliot, for instance. The legacy of the Hughes/Plath divorce seems along culturally poetic lines and national tastes, the way these honors are being given out. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe when literary Great Britain is done with all the fanfare, fashion, analysis, and with finding where Hughes' plaques and ashes should ultimately rest, they will get around to finalizing their adoption and appreciation of Plath as well. As for now, the light's been left on and the door has always been open for Sylvia Plath here in the States, where both she and her immortal poetry are loved, where even her mortal remains would be welcomed and honored.
That's our lead item. There are dozens more terrific articles and some poetry for you to unearth. I'll leave it all for your discovery.
Thanks for clicking in.
Yours,
Rus
