Salinger's For Esmé--with Love and Squalor) until last year (when he reviewed Dancing in the Dark: A cultural history of the Great Depression by Morris Dickstein). His books include The Rise and Fall of the Man of Letters: Aspects of English literary life since 1800 (1969), The Oxford Book of Aphorisms (1983), Shylock: Four hundred years in the life of a legend (1992), A Double Thread: A childhood in Mile End--and beyond (2001) and The Oxford Book of Parodies (published last year, and reviewed in the TLS by Seamus Perry).
