Great Regulars: This is Pittsburgh, not Los Angeles,

where a two-hour car trip is a short ride. It's clear that a need cries out for a bookstore within the city, close to neighborhoods and open on weekends.

(I'm excluding the fine independents Penguin Books in Sewickley and Mystery Lovers in Oakmont because they are well outside Pittsburgh. I don't mean to slight them.)

"A thriving neighborhood bookstore is recognized as a key element in the social, cultural and economic fabric of any community," wrote publishing figures Jack McKeown and Don Linn last week in their online article "Will Independent Bookstores Seize the Day?"
