of fellow poets whose art was often repressed for political and cultural reasons, his family said. Sometimes, he had to meet them in secret to share their work.
"He gave his word to poets he met from all corners of the world that he would create a space for them," said his wife, Rachel Jamison Webster, "that someday, their works and ideas could be shared with many others."
Mr. Fammeree, 59, of Evanston, was the founder of the non-profit UniVerse of Poetry Foundation and performed at Chicago-area festivals and clubs.
