Poetic Obituaries: "He worked 80 different jobs. . . .

He faced death from venomous snakes and other encounters. . . . He traveled the world," he [Marion Waggoner] said [of Allan Eckert]. "He was one of the most eclectic individuals I've ever met, but he was also very warm, genuine and without any pretense at all."

Literature was his strong suit, but his talents extended beyond books, articles and poetry.

Eckert also wrote "Blue Jacket," another Shawnee Indian chief drama that played for 26 years near Xenia before it closed in 2009. He won an Emmy Award in 1970 for his work with television's "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom," as well as several screenplays.
