News at Eleven: Nearly 65 years after her death,

Gertrude Stein is suddenly everywhere.

Her life is the subject of an exhibit at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco, and her influential role as an art collector--as well as that of her siblings--is the focus of a show at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Across the street from the museum, a restaged production of the experimental opera "Four Saints in Three Acts," for which she wrote the libretto, is in the works. Filmmaker Woody Allen cast Kathy Bates as Gertrude Stein in his new movie "Midnight in Paris," where the writer can be seen rubbing shoulders with Pablo Picasso and Ernest Hemingway, and a pair of Bay Area actresses are bringing Stein's world to life on local stages starting with a literary tribute in honor of Bastille Day in San Francisco Thursday.
