Great Regulars: Zhan Haite, who was born in the southern city

of Zhuhai but was raised in Shanghai, complained on her Sina microblog account that she had been refused a place at a senior high school in the city because her "hukou," or household registration document, wasn't issued in the city.

Zhan's father, Zhan Quanxi, is being held under criminal detention, while the family's landlord has asked them to leave after coming under strong pressure from police.

In "Garlic Ballads" he exposed a lot of corruption among grass-roots officials, but in the end he concludes that the Communist Party of China is marvelous, and that it's only local officials who are corrupt. That's what the Party leadership says as well.

The cultural elite of Sweden and China attended the award ceremony, including officials from the Chinese Embassy. They should hear an alternative view; that the granting of an award to Mo Yan is the most shameful chapter in their history.
