Poetic Obituaries: [Dr. Dorothy "Jean" Arnold] was the first disabled

female to graduate from the University of Alabama Medical College in 1947 and the first female psychiatrist to open up private practice in the state of Iowa in 1957. As a pioneer for women, Dr. Arnold taught at the University of Iowa Hospital, served in several professional organizations, and was a well known face in the psychiatry profession for 38 years. In her retirement, Dr. Arnold published two books of poetry and other smaller writings.
