for writing and wrote poetry, plays, articles, essays and short stories. Her first paid writing job was as Editor of a Black newspaper "The News Leader" in Alexandria. This job allowed her to do feature and investigative stories. She published works in literary magazines, Sunday School books, textbooks as well as anthologies of Black writers. Pearl's name has been listed on the list of Best Writers in the United States.
