October 5th forum announcement

Dear Poetry Aficionados,

Poetry & Poets in Rags blog

Last week end was the Lowell Celebrates Kerouac Festival, which took place in Lowell Massachusetts, where Jack Kerouac was born. We have words about Kerouac from former professional boxer and a good friend of his, Billy Koumantzelis.

Our lead story is on the upcoming Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival, this year in Newark New Jersey, Allen Ginsberg's birth city of all places. Also in News at Eleven, poems from Dorianne Laux, David Baker, and Christian Campbell. Not to be missed is the perspective look from John Burns on American poetry, and a look at Irish poetry from Patrick Crotty's perspective.

Our Great Regulars section is very large. It's good to see these great writers and rags issuing so much in one week. But Poetic Obituaries is shorter than usual. That's good too, except that we've lost some important people.

Congratulations are due to three poets and the poetry boards they frequent. And many thanks to IBPC's summer judge, Ruth Ellen Kocher, whose three-month stint is now complete, and like summer, too soon it seems, with the issuing of her September results. Here are the winning poems:

1st Place: Ways to Paint a Woman, by Lois P. Jones, of PenShells
2nd Place: Her Quinceañera, by Lynne Doiron, of PoetryCircle
3rd Place: Ethics, by Helmuth Filipowitsch, of Wild Poetry Forum

Thanks for clicking in.

Yours,
Rus
