Irish short stories and poetry and first published the work of writers such John McGahern, Colm Tóibín, Joe O'Connor and Anne Enright.He had been ill for some time. Born in Cork in 1924, he was widely-regarded as a tireless advocate of the Irish short story.
Mr Marcus edited Irish Writing and Poetry Ireland for almost a decade prior to 1954.
