Dear Poetry Aficionados,
IBPC: Poetry & Poets in Rags
In Jordan, some misguided fool just might kill poet Islam Simham in order to get into heaven. It's a case of spiritually dead heretics accusing a poet of apostasy for the sake of political power. This is our opening link. Our next article is about a demonstration to free the poet Liu Xiaobo, who was imprisoned for his writing. Next comes an article on Apple, which is following the lead of Yahoo and Google, companies that censor important information from getting to the good people living in China. Here we have three examples of how power and money corrupt. Again, though, we have more than one article on Dennis Brutus, a story of what one poet can do. Check out Martín Espada's poem about him in News at Eleven, René Wadlow's article on him in Great Regulars, and the New York Times article on him in Poetic Obituaries. In between are dozens more articles on poetry and poets, past and present.
Thanks for reading.
Yours,
Rus
