Dear Poetry Aficionados,
IBPC: Poetry & Poets in Rags
In the past couple of years, News at Eleven has linked to articles about Nobel-nominated poet Yusuf Juma (or Yusuf Djuma or Yusuf Jumaev), about his background and arrest on trumped-up charges in Uzbekistan, and about his family and the torture he and his two sons have suffered at the hands of the Uzbek government. Today, we begin Poetry & Poet in Rags by looking at the literary context of oppression there, how he is one of several writers who have been imprisoned by this evil government.
On the Back Page of News at Eleven, you'll find a poetic and historic look at Haiti, one that gives hope for the future. In Great Regulars, the Dalai Lama has a message for Haitians. It is also Edgar Allan Poe's birthday today, and there are articles about him in both News at Eleven and in Great Regulars. It's a diverse and interesting week for news in poetry. Thanks for clicking in.
Yours,
Rus
