until retiring at age 80. At 92, he won a gold medal in Ping-Pong at the National Senior Olympics, where he carried the Maryland flag in closing ceremonies. In 2004, he published a book of poems in memory of his wife, the former Jessie Johnston, to whom he was married for 38 years.
