Great Regulars: According to reports, one of the early frontrunners

for the post is poet and academic Geoffrey Hill. Sir Andrew Motion, the former Poet Laureate earlier this week called on Hill among other poets to be taught in classrooms. Sir Andrew is another name who has been linked with the post. Earlier this month he told The Daily Telegraph: "I think quite a lot of people will be put off after what happened last time around, but not me.

"That is not to say it wasn't a very unseemly and regrettable business."
