Dear Poetry Aficionados,
Poetry & Poets in Rags blog
We begin with the cuts. Politicians in the UK have cut the Poetry Book Society's funding. The governor of Wisconsin has cut the money for that state's poet laureate. Yeah, a measly $2,000 from a big state in America, cut to send some sort of message. What's the message, Scotty?
And really, the PBS's funding through the Arts Council isn't making anyone go broke either. It's all politics by stupid and power-mongering politicians.
Aside: I'll tell you something, you power dopes. Poetry & Poets in Rags is a labor of love. No politician or special interest group has any power over what I include. So just like I tell the idiot politicians in tyrannical countries like Burma and China, who have no idea how to run their countries to jam it, I'm telling you anal politicians in democratic countries to stick the state's money until it hurts. You want to send a message? Eliminate your pay. Or let your message be hypocrisy.
We have plenty more stories on poetry besides these two. In fact, we link to Carol Rumens' discussion of the PBS cuts in our Great Regulars section. Dozens more articles than these, including some terrific poems.
Thanks for clicking in.
Yours,
Rus
