News at Eleven: Speaking about [Carol Ann] Duffy,

[Geoffrey] Hill, a professor of poetry at Oxford, says: "for the common good she is willing to have quoted several lines from a poem by herself "--it was one of her early pieces quoted in a Guardian interview--"that could easily be mistaken for a first effort by one of the young people she wishes to encourage." That sounds like approval to me, even if guarded approval.
