Dear Poetry Aficionados,
Poetry & Poets in Rags blog
Azerbaijani poets Shahryar Hajizadeh and Farid Husseinov have been released from Iranian captivity, after going there for a festival, but supposedly as Israeli-trained terrorist spies for Azerbaijan's secret service. This is our first article in News at Eleven. Our second is about Mexican poet Javier Sicilia and the Caravan for Peace reaching New York City. Our third is about Aung San Suu Kyi's upcoming visit to the United States. Poets country-hopping for causes. Eight more stories make for eleven in our first section.
In Great Regulars, that second photo of Emily Dickinson is covered by Alison Flood, this among five links to articles by her. Garrison Keillor brings us some remarkable poetry as usual. Be sure to check out the ones by U.S. Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey and Joseph Mills. And that's how our second section begins, with much more to follow.
In our final section, Poetic Obituaries, you'll find among four that beat poet Dick McBride has passed, with a poem by him. By the way, more of Hal David's death, reported last week, is covered by John Timpane in Great Regulars.
Troy Jollimore's IBPC results for August are posted, congrats to the poets and boards!:

2nd place: The Battle of Lac Baptiste by Brenda Levy Tate also of PenShells
