was born in the USA in 1892 and died in 1950. Her sonnet is an elegy for desire; winter's raw-eyed, backward look at summer. In this poem, the rhymes are carefully weary-"why/sigh", "lain/rain"--but the memory of sexual love is achingly vivid.
