and enrolled in the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art. She earned a B.F.A. in 1955 from the San Francisco Art Institute, where she studied with Clyfford Still.
By then she [Deborah Remington] belonged to the Bay Area's burgeoning Beat scene. She was one of six painters and poets--and the only woman--who in 1954 founded the Six Gallery. It was there, on Oct. 7, 1955, that Allen Ginsberg first read his incendiary poem "Howl" in public.
