Great Regulars: "We want to create a digital-first opportunity

for poets to share their work and for audiences to discover the genre [and we] are excited to see how the world connects over poetry."

Atwood, who joined Wattpad's community of nine million writers and readers in June, will be judging the prize, for which competitors must enter 10 poems as a collection, each demonstrating a different poetic form. Prizes will range from $1,000 (£640) to feedback sessions from the Booker-winning author.

Four self-published authors will have a total of seven novels on the New York Times ebook bestseller list this weekend, and the founder of self-publishing powerhouse Smashwords is predicting the number is only going to grow.

Jonah Lehrer's British publisher Canongate has withdrawn his book Imagine from sale, following the former New Yorker writer's admission that he made up quotes from Bob Dylan for the bestselling title.

Lehrer, a staff writer for the New Yorker, admitted at the start of this week that he had falsified quotes from the singer in Imagine, a non-fiction title which explores the "profound mysteries of creative thought".

The Turkish publisher facing obscenity charges for releasing a translation of a William Burroughs novel has vowed not to be intimidated by an Istanbul court's decision to postpone the trial, despite the "sword of Damocles" which now hangs over its head.
