Poetic Obituaries: "Nothing is more beautiful than

the written word," Yasmin [Ahmad] often said to me. I conceded her belief, but sheepishly, because to me nothing is more beautiful than a person who loves, appreciates, and possesses the ability to personify the written word. Nothing was more beautiful than Yasmin, because she could do all that, beautifully.

When I asked how I could write like her, so crisp and swift, Yasmin quoted Ernest Hemingway to me: "All you have to do is write one true sentence. Write the truest sentence you know."
