Great Regulars: Gathering poems written over 30 years,

"The Book of Shadows" is unafraid of darkness and its attendant shades, yet it never forgets that darkness is, by its very definition, dependent on light. The book is haunted by loss: vanished lovers, spent dreams, erased landscapes. But hope drifts throughout it, too, drawn by [Carlos] Reyes in small details: fresh milk, clean rain, spring light.

A Portland resident, Reyes spent last spring as poet-in-residence at Joshua Tree National Park. He answered a few questions about his new book via e-mail.
