Great Regulars: In Edgar Lee Masters' "Robert Southey Burke"

from Spoon River Anthology, Mr. Burke lets off steam from his animosity toward "A. D. Blood," whom we met in an earlier epigraph, where Blood was complaining about a couple who used his grave as a place to fornicate, and although he did not mention Burke, Blood's personality began to emerge as a self-righteous, pompous character.

The speaker calls those weather forecasters "Darlings of the media."  He also calls them "prophets" who have the "power" to make those country folks "tune in any hour."

The farmers, ranchers, and cowboys, who spend a lot time out in the weather would like to be able to rely on some predictions, because the weather often "makes the difference/Between failure or success."
